White Spots on Teeth

Posted by writeradmin

Ever since I was a child I had white spots on the bottom of my teeth. They have always bothered me. I finally got up the courage to talk to my dentist about it. She said that my teeth are very healthy and I shouldn’t be so picky. Why should I try to fix what is healthy? Her words, not mine. I just don’t think it is wrong to want a pretty smile as well as a healthy smile. Is it possible to use teeth whitening to fix this?

Dear David,

Teeth Bleaching trays

I am glad you wrote. It sounds like your dentist is one of the engineering type of dentists. They got involved in their field because they wanted to fix things. This is why she suggested you not try to fix what is healthy.

Another type of dentist is the one who likes to fix things, but also likes to make them beautiful. A cosmetic dentist. In fact, with a true cosmetic dentist, even if they like the way your smile looks it wouldn’t matter until YOU loved the way your smile looked.

Unfortunately, teeth whitening will not fix the problem. When your are bleaching your teeth, the whitening bleaches your teeth evenly. That means while the rest of your teeth are whitening, so do the white spots. It won’t cover them or make them blend.

Depending on how small the spots are you could solve it with dental bonding. If they are bigger, then I would suggest porcelain veneers. In fact, they can do more than just cover your spots. If you want to change anything about your smile, they can do that, including the shape, size, and color of your teeth.

One thing to be aware of is that, while any dentist can do teeth whitening (which won’t help your situation), it takes an expert cosmetic dentist to do either the bonding or veneers procedures. Make sure you choose your dentist carefully.
