What Age Is Best to Get Porcelain Veneers?

Posted by writeradmin

I am frustrated with my teeth. I had a lot of work done to them and also had braces when I was in  my early teens that made them pretty stained. I’ve also got a few that are chipped. I’d love to get a gorgeous smile before I start going on professional job interviews. Is there an ideal age to get some porcelain veneers? Is there an age which is too young?

Dear Lorraine,

A porcelain veneer being held up to a tooth.

There isn’t a perfect age for porcelain veneers, just when you are ready to get the smile of your dreams. There is one exception to that in that you don’t want to be too young.

I don’t know how old you are, but if you are worried about being too young and looking at your first professional job interviews I’m going to guess somewhere between a senior in high school or a senior in college. The main consideration with age is that you would want your teeth fully developed. This usually is true by the time a patient is 18 years old.

It’s possible to get them before that, but your teeth will continue to develop which will expose parts that are not covered. To protect your teeth, you’d want to replace the veneers. That’s not cheap, so it makes more sense to wait until there won’t be any more tooth development.

You picked a great way to get the smile of your dreams. Porcelain veneers are the best smile makeover procedure there is. You will want to be careful about the dentist you have do it. They’ll need to have post doctoral training in how to do them. You’ll also want to check out their smile gallery to see what kind of results that they get. Finally, make sure they’re willing to first place them with a temporary try in paste. This way you get to look at them and make sure they are exactly what you want. If they’re not, then he or she should be willing to send them back to the lab and redo them.

While you are looking for that perfect cosmetic dentist to do your smile makeover, I would get your teeth whitened. Most people only place veneers on the upper arch and just whiten the lower arch to blend in better with the veneers.
