I’ve been doing teeth whitening trays for a couple of hours a day and they’re still not as white as I’d like. I spoke with my dentist about it and he suggested that I try Lumineers. They are pricey but if they can get my teeth really white I am all for the expense.

I am very glad you wrote. First, do not get Lumineers. These are a very specific brand of porcelain veneers that are highly marketed to inexperienced dentists as being easy to place. However, being easy to place is not nearly the same as being easy to make look natural and beautiful. To do that requires an expert cosmetic dentist with post-doctoral training in doing smile makeovers.
Most cosmetic dentists that have this training tend to avoid the Lumineers brand. This is because their parent company requires dentists to use their lab, which is not known for its artistic results. While porcelain veneers can get your teeth very white, I would make certain you are going to a dentist who can give you a beautiful result. I have my doubts about your dentist’s cosmetic skills if he’s recommending Lumineers.
However, teeth whitening can get your teeth extraordinarily white. The secret is to wear the teeth whitening trays for as long as you can every day. I recommend wearing them over night. This gives you more hours and your saliva is at its lowest, though your teeth whitening trays should be eliminating most of the saliva from getting into the gel and diluting it.
Persistence is the key. Keep getting refills on your gel and wearing them for long periods of time. Not even Zoom Whitening will get them whiter than persistence.
If you are in a hurry, then porcelain veneers will be the way to go. Just make sure you get the right dentist to do the work.
