Can’t Afford a Pretty Smile

Posted by writeradmin

I feel like if you live in the US and don’t have a pretty smile, no one will take you seriously. I have just never had much money and it depresses me to no end that I cannot afford these smile makeovers that my friends get. I recently read that I can get snap on veneers. These are much cheaper. Is that a good option for me?

Dear Deidre,

before and after snap on smile

You are probably hearing about Snap-on Smile. These are not made of porcelain the way veneers are, but generally made from a resin. These are a single unit that will snap over your existing teeth. In person, they will look okay, not beautiful. So as long as you understand that, you should be fine.

Because they snap over your current smile, they will tend to make your teeth look a little bulkier so if you have any protrusion as it is, that is something to consider. Generally, I only recommend these to use while you are saving up for a better, more permanent solution, or for a single event, like a school reunion or a photo shoot. They tend to look better in photos than at a conversational distance.

This is probably not what you were wanting to hear. If you are looking for an affordable way to makeover your smile, my recommendation would actually be for you to get your teeth whitened. It is significantly less money that porcelain veneers and can take years off your appearance. It is an easy procedure that can make a huge difference.

If you do a search for an affordable dentist, you may even find one who is willing to let you make payments on the procedure. It’s not a guarantee, but it is worth asking.
