How Can You Tell If You Have a Cavity?

Posted by nmcclees

Man Holding Mouth in Pain.Discovering you have a cavity isn’t something anyone looks forward to. Unfortunately, the reality is that among adults aged 20 and older, about 90% have had at least one cavity. In other words, cavities are common. So, what are the signs you need to see your dentist to have a cavity filled?

1). The Toothache
An aching tooth is one of the most common signs of a cavity. Persistent pain or discomfort is your tooth’s way of saying “Hey, something isn’t right here!”

2). Sensitive Smile
Wincing when you sip on a hot cup of coffee or enjoy a scoop of ice cream? Tooth sensitivity to temperature is another telltale sign of a cavity.

3). Seeing Spots
Have you noticed any mysterious dark spots or holes on your teeth in the mirror? These spots could most definitely be cavities making themselves known.

4). Sweet Tooth Troubles
We all love a sweet treat now and then, but if you experience discomfort when you indulge in something sugary it could be a sign.

5). Fretting When Flossing
Raise your hand if you floss every day! If you do, kudos! If not, you aren’t alone. When you do floss after not flossing for some time, it can be normal to experience bleeding or tenderness. However, if it continues with regular flossing, the gum inflammation could be caused by a cavity.

6.) Not So Fresh Breath
If you’ve been diligent with your oral hygiene, yet you notice not so pleasant breath, a cavity could be the cause.
