Is it OK to get porcelain veneers when you’ve got fillings?
Ruthie B.- San Fransisco, CA
It is perfectly fine to get porcelain veneers done if you have fillings on your teeth. The bonding material is completely compatible with the materials used in fillings.
I would say that if you don’t have white fillings, and they are visible, you might want to have any silver/ amalgam fillings replaced with some white/ composite fillings and then go ahead with your veneers.

I was thinking of getting porcelain veneers, but wondered if they are painful.

No. In fact, porcelain veneers are one of the easiest procedures a patient can go through. Many patients do it without any anesthetic. Sometimes dentists can have a hard time getting off the excess bonding material, but as long as they do it while it is still soft and easy to work with, it can be done with floss.
