I have a couple of crowns on my back teeth. I wanted to whiten my teeth, but my dentist says because of my crowns I can’t. Why not?

Your dentist is wrong. Hopefully he meant to tell you that you could whiten your teeth, but that your dental crowns would not whiten. If that isn’t what he meant than you need to find another dentist. Don’t walk, run. He’s totally incompetent.
Here is what a real dentist would tell you. You have two choices:
- Whiten your teeth, leaving your crowns as they are. Because you mentioned these crowns are on your back teeth, that wouldn’t be so bad. It wouldn’t be very noticeable.
- You could do your teeth whitening, and then get new crowns to match the new color.
I hope this helps. This blog is brought to you by Lafayette Dentist Dr. John Theriot.
